Max King at XC Worlds
In case you didn't see it, local good guy and rippin fast Max King was the 5th American and 55th out of 166 finishers at the World Cross Country Championships in Edinburgh. Max splits his time between Eugene and Bend these days. Nice work Max! Horse Butte 10 Miler
Ran the loop this morning and it was in great shape. This little dusting of snow will only make the trail better as it is supposed to warm up this week. As far as the race goes we still have about 70 spots left for this great race. If you have never done the loop it is really one of the best in Bend this time of year. The price goes up five bucks on Tuesday some come down and get yourself registered for the FootZone Horse Butte 10 miler.
Peace out,

10% Rule
Many of you run all year long, but others enjoy the snow (or the couch) in the winter. Even though the weather's not cooperating, we're all starting to get excited about the season and all the fun running ahead. As you get ready for an event or just start to get out a little more, pay heed to the 10% rule. Simply speaking, this is the rule that says you shouldn't increase your mileage by more than 10% a week. Like any rule, it can be broken with varying degrees of success. Some are lucky enough to stay healthy, but so many of the injuries we see and hear about could be avoided. Gradually building a base and allowing your body to adapt to the miles will help you avoid the injury bug. It can be hard to hold back as your fitness builds and the weather turns but a little patience now usually pays off later. enjoy-Teague

St. Patty's Day and DH update
Hope all of you had a great St. Patrick's day and had at least one drink to celebrate the life of the man who gave us the day. As the FootZone should we had a short run which ended at the Silver Moon tasting room. The run was great and the beer was better. About a dozen found time in their afternoon to participate.
The Dirty Half registration continues to chug along. As of Sunday we had 430 entrants which put us over the half way point. The pace of entries doesn't seem to be slowing so don't delay in getting yours in if you want to run the Dirty.

Dirty Half Registration
The 2008 FootZone Dirty registration is going quite well. 12 days in thus far and we have over 300 entrants. The pace of entries shows no sign of slowing so better get your name in the magic hat before too long.
Training runs for Dirty Half begin on April 19th at 8:00am. I know this is a Saturday and all the rest take place on Sunday. The reason is that there is a new 5k going on April 20th so we didn't want to conflict.
A quick note on the Horse Butte 10 miler. As of today we are at 80 registrants which is nearly half way to our 200 person capacity. Don't miss out on this great run on the trails just east of Bend.
Peace out,
dave

off and rolling
This past weekend was the kick off for signing up for the coveted 800 spots in the 2008 FootZone Dirty Half. My co worker Colleen made some really good cookies to celebrate which lots of folks enjoyed while the supply lasted. To have some fun we gave a prize away for the first person to sign up for the race. Kelly Swisher and her daughter tied for the prize and will have to share the sweatshirt. Sign ups went very well and as of today 3-4-08 we are sitting at about 150.
So come down sign up and check out F'zones new look. Also don't forget about the running sale that starts on Friday 3-9-08 and runs through the weekend.
peace out,
dave

It starts...
Today is the day to sign up for the 2008 FootZone Dirty Half. We have 800 slots again this year but even with the expanded field it only took 5 weeks for the 07 race to fill. When you are filling out your form please submit a race time so we can seed you properly in one of the three waves.
Don't forget about the FootZone Horse Butte 10 miler coming up on April 6th. This is a great trail and one of the best loops in town this time of year.
Peace out,
dave
